Kinja'd!!!

Not the 4Runner I was in today, but I can still dream.

So earlier today I wanted an E39. Two days ago I wanted an E38. But now I want a 3rd generation Toyota 4Runner with the 3.4.

I spent a majority of the day in a mildly lifted 1999 4Runner with 186,000 miles and I have fallen in love.

Im amazed how capable a mildly modified 3rd gen is, small with great articulation.

They definitely have that effect. Tons of personality, but no bad personality. I personally wouldn’t have a lifted one to daily drive though...

My mother daily drives a (purchased new) 99 4runner SR5, that same green. It has about 90k miles on it and other than the rear bumper rusting like they all do, is pretty much mint.

She’s been talking about getting something new when I’ve talked to her about it lately... if she does I’m totally buying it off her.

Her’s is lifted two inches with 33 inch BFG mud tires and stock wheels. She’s 5'4 and I’m 5'6, and it’s a bit of a struggle getting in. She has a handle installed on the drivers side, which is hilarious.

Nonetheless, it’s a surprisingly smooth ride (other than over speed bumps. It does not like speed bumps), and I would have no problem dailying it.

I want a green one with a roofbox. On another note, would it be a bad idea to get a sub $5,000 80 series Land Cruiser that’s been in SC all it’s life?

186,XXX miles and not a spec of rust on the rear bumper. Then again, it has been in North Carolina since new.

It's not awesome to daily. The 3.4 doesn't make much power for the displacement or mileage.

Her parents bought it new in 1999, and lifted it at about 150,000 miles, and now has 186,000 on it. I personally thought it was fine.

I drove in the city today with mine and the fuel needle just dropped.

I was partially joking, but trust me, the extra wear and tear that a lift causes isn’t worth it unless you live somewhere that offers more offroading than mud and light trails. I bought mine with a brand new lift, and in in extremely good condition, but 30k miles later everything in the suspension and steering needs replaced. It reaks havoc on wear and tear parts, and if I could go back, I would have just gotten a stock one and put more aggressive tires on it. My friends stock height pickup would go places he wouldn’t take his YJ. Also, if the handle you are talking about is on the A-pillar, they come with that. They are surprisingly strong.

Salt 4-6 months a year here, so understandable. I’ve never seen one (around here) without the same rust at the seams on the bumper (in the last 5 years at least). It’s getting pretty bad.

Yes, but how often do you have to fix anything?

The week I got it. But no problems after that.

I’m pretty sure he’s referring to the other SC, but we don’t really have rust here either.

I’ve also noticed that taller people have even more trouble getting in. I had a friend who was 6'7” that had to contort himself in.

The handle is on the b-pillar, and the steering sucks so baaadddd. Either way, I think it’s cool.

Jordan is right, I’m referring to SC. Charleston in particular.

My steering was actually really good, until I moved to third world Carolina.

South Carolina aka “Worse Carolina.”

Well to be fair, you’re not allowed to be gay or drive in NC, anymore. And that really sucks.

Well mainly due to the roads here, I would not be able to pass an inspection, which SC does not have.

It is a 1999 SR5 2WD. With the auto.

Oh. And the interior is blue.

NC’s inspection is a joke. We’ve taken the TrailBlazer there with a CEL and an airbag light and it’s passed fine.

Mine needs a little bit of everything right now, it’s part of the reason I plan on buying a new car, so I can make my 4Runner my project.

Not a bad idea. But 4Runner’s and Pathfinder’s are my most recent loves.

Having a lift kit has quickly ruined mine. Something, something suspension geometry, something, something more weight. Now I need to replace all of the steering components, suspension components, and interior trim that has bounced loose, because just because it’s smooth now, doesn’t mean it’ll be smooth a few thousand miles down he road.
